Did you stop eating a gluten free diet over the holidays? Are you ready to start feeling better again? Read this!
I have a question for you.
I have been gluten free for 8 months, it has changed my life – I have felt so much better it is shocking to me!!I went out of the country for the holidays and ” fell off the wagon” and am struggling to get back on. I’m so disappointed with myself and worried as to how long it will be before I get all the gluten out of my system again.
Do you have any helpful tips for me?
I am already feeling the flu like symptoms and tiredness that gluten causes me.
4 Tips To Getting Back On A Gluten Free Diet After The Holidays
Tip #1: Stop being disappointed with yourself! You’re not the first person to fall off the gluten free bandwagon. You didn’t do your body any favors by eating gluten, but beating yourself up isn’t going to help you get your diet back on track.
Tip #2: Think happy thoughts! Your experience of cheating is going to help you in the future. You’ve just had a practical lesson in how much a gluten free diet us helping you. That will be extra incentive to stay gluten free the next time that you’re faced with temptation.
Tip #3: Minimize grains and sugars. Strictly limiting the gluten free grains and sugars in my diet helps me feel better quickly after a period of gluten free indulgences. I can’t think of any reason the same strategy would not speed up your recovery as well. Everbody is different, but I would expect that you’ll be feeling better within two or three weeks at the longest – but probably much sooner.
Tip #4: Take time to reflect. Think back over the holidays and identify your triggers. Did you eat gluten when you were around desserts and didn’t have a good gluten free alternative? Was it the traditional holiday meal that was your downfall?
